Joyful Mysteries
Monday & Saturday
The Incarnation and childhood of Christ. Mary receives the Word, carries him to Elizabeth, gives birth in Bethlehem, presents him in the Temple, and finds him teaching the elders. Each mystery is a yes that echoes through history.
First Mystery: The Annunciation
The angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph. The angel said to her, 'Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you.' Mary said, 'Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.' Luke 1:26-38
A young woman in a small town receives the most consequential invitation in human history. She does not ask for proof or time to consider. She asks one practical question, then says yes. That yes made possible everything that followed. Every vocation begins with a moment like this: God speaks, and a human being decides to trust.
Fruit: Humility
Second Mystery: The Visitation
Mary set out and traveled to the hill country in haste to a town of Judah. When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, cried out, 'Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.' Luke 1:39-56
Mary does not sit with the news. She goes in haste to her cousin, the one other person who would understand. Two women carrying impossible pregnancies meet on a hillside, and Elizabeth names what Mary carries before Mary can explain it. Grace recognizes grace. The Magnificat pours out: God has looked upon his lowly servant, and the mighty are brought low.
Fruit: Love of neighbor
Third Mystery: The Nativity
She gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. Luke 2:1-20
The Creator of the universe arrives in an animal shelter. No palace, no announcement to the powerful, no comfort. The first visitors are shepherds, the working poor, summoned by angels they did not expect. God enters the world the way most people enter it: in obscurity, in vulnerability, dependent on the love of others.
Fruit: Poverty of spirit
Fourth Mystery: The Presentation
When the days were completed for their purification according to the law of Moses, they took him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord. Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, 'This child is destined for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and a sword will pierce your own soul.' Luke 2:22-40
Mary and Joseph bring Jesus to the Temple because the law requires it. They are faithful to the tradition, even though the child they carry transcends it. Simeon, who has waited his entire life for this moment, recognizes what the priests do not. He also tells Mary the truth: this will cost you. Obedience and suffering are not opposites.
Fruit: Obedience
Fifth Mystery: The Finding in the Temple
After three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. His mother said to him, 'Son, why have you done this to us?' He said, 'Did you not know that I must be in my Father's house?' Luke 2:41-52
Three days of panic. Every parent knows the terror of a missing child. Mary and Joseph search everywhere before finding Jesus calmly teaching in the Temple, as if this were the most natural thing in the world. His answer is not rebellion: it is clarity about his identity. Mary does not fully understand, but she keeps all these things in her heart. That is the posture of faith: holding what you cannot yet comprehend.
Fruit: Joy in finding Jesus
Sign of the Cross
Amen.
Apostles' Creed
the Father almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried;
he descended into hell;
on the third day he rose again from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty;
from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.
Amen.
Our Father
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.
Hail Mary
the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
Glory Be
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end.
Amen.
Fatima Prayer
save us from the fires of hell,
lead all souls to heaven,
especially those most in need of Thy mercy.
Amen.
Hail, Holy Queen
our life, our sweetness and our hope.
To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve.
To thee do we send up our sighs,
mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Turn then, most gracious advocate,
thine eyes of mercy toward us,
and after this our exile,
show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.
Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God.
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Amen.
Closing Prayer
by His life, death and resurrection,
has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life;
grant, we beseech Thee,
that by meditating upon these mysteries
of the most holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
we may imitate what they contain,
and obtain what they promise,
through the same Christ our Lord.
Amen.
